Artist in Residence Our Place 2024
Brighton Festival and the Moulsecoomb & Bevendean Community Steering Group are looking for an Artist (or collective) in Residence to create a community arts project in Moulsecoomb & Bevendean, Brighton, as part of Our Place 2024.
Our Place is Brighton Festival’s flagship community initiative produced in partnership with the communities of East Brighton, Hangleton & Knoll and Moulsecoomb & Bevendean.
Our Place works with a steering group of local residents to programme art made by, with and for people living in the area. Our Place aims to create an open, inviting programme of bold, exceptional work in the community.
The Our Place Artist in Residence for Moulsecoomb & Bevendean should be keen to co-create with the community and the steering committee on a project that will make an impact in the local area. Previous Artist in Residence projects have included visual art trails; screen printed postcard and banner project celebrating the diversity of the local community, community made and decorated willow arches; craft and a performance project exploring murmuration.
The community is open to proposals in all art forms, including combined art forms.
The community would love a project for 2024 that focusses on playfulness and joy and involves the community in actively creating work. As well as building on the connections that Our Place Moulsecoomb & Bevendean has made with children and families, they would be particularly interested to see projects which are for intergenerational audiences and those which can forge links between the student population and local residents.
