Adopt an Author
A dedicated novelist or poet for your class
Established in 2004, this national literature project run by Brighton Dome & Festival aims to promote a love of reading, inspire creative writing and make the most of ICT.
Each year, the 8-week projects pairs classes of schoolchildren (at both primary and lower secondary level) with their own dedicated author. Through group reading and regular e-mail contact between the author and their class, participants get to learn first-hand about how an author creates a story or a poem, stimulating follow-on creative writing activities in the classroom. At the end of the project, the class gets the opportunity to meet their adopted author in a special event as part of Brighton Festival.
Established in 2004, Adopt an Author has seen schools in Brighton & Hove and nationally pair up with some of the UK's leading children's writers including Michael Rosen, Geraldine McCaughrean, Philip Ardagh, Nicky Singer, Debi Gliori and Beverley Naidoo.
Supported by Mrs A Lacy Tate Trust and The Lynn Foundation.
