The Umbrella Club is a membership club for children and young people with life- limiting conditions.
The scheme was piloted recently with support from the American Express Foundation. The main objective is to offer access to the arts through the provision of free tickets to a live performance and participation in the arts through a series of workshops. We are working closely with Chestnut Tree House (Sussex’s only children’s hospice) who are able to extend our reach by facilitating the live streaming of shows and therefore involving children who are too ill to attend in person.
‘This project really highlights the monumental importance of continued access to theatre for life limited young people and their families, and it’s brilliant to watch them benefit together from the joy the arts can bring’ Vicky Tremain, Project Leader
We choose shows which are fun, lively and that appeal to a wide range of ages. We facilitate ‘meet the cast’ VIP parties so club members can gain exclusive access, plus there are activity based workshops and goodie bags too.
So far we have reached 300 families, but we’d love to do more
