We welcome the return of this annual multi-cultural celebration of cultures and heritage - with arts, music, dance, food and activities for all.

Your whole family is invited to join the fun.
Dance to the rhythms, listen to the stories, get creative, feast, express yourself. Celebrate!

Get creative

  • Arts & crafts workshops – have a go at sandpainting & model making, design a flag or create your own mask
  • Vintage puppet making workshop - find out about the history of the Labour Corps during the First World War
  • Creative writing workshop - write your own Sussex-inspired story

  • Bitesize talk - learn about changing African fashion styles from the 60s to today
  • A Black History film about the life of Thomas Highflyer, by Judith Ricketts, followed by a talk with Bert Williams and Suchi Chatterjee

Rhythms & beats

  • A spectacular opening ceremony featuring the incredible Maractau Cruzeiro do Sul from Brazil
  • Drumming workshop – get into the groove with Gambian master drummer Bucarr Ndow
  • DJ Tusk will play the best beats from around the world all afternoon
  • Dance - Palaye Seck will lead a dance finale with the latest West African moves
  • Banyan Tree Theatre Group brings you an uplifting participatory singing workshop

  • Face painting
  • Head wrapping - choose from a wide range of beautiful African fabrics and have your head wrapped in the latest styles
  • Pop-up African photo studio - Choose an outfit, grab some props and have your portrait taken by photographer Leslie Marem

  • Contemporary African cooking demonstration by Lerato Foods
  • Indulge in a fusion of flavours from East Africa and Gujarat from Kitgum Kitchen
  • Traditional Caribbean cooking served by the Island Takeaway
