Kalakuta Republik
Kalakuta Republik merges politics and the body to create a unique contemporary dance performance by choreographer Serge Aimé Coulibaly. Harnessing the spirit of AfroBeat, sensual jazz and political revolution; Kalakuta transcends time to draw comparisons between 1970’s political movement and today through breath-taking choreography and music.
Based on the life and passion of African activist, musician and inventor Fela Kuti, the show takes you on a journey of how one voice can change the society around them. A must-see at Edinburgh International Festival this year, it incorporates the passion for political change with dance. Kalakuta is a vibrant experience, that is ‘a feast for both the eye and the ear’ (Les Inrockuptibles).
A memorable ‘careening, veering, chaotic political awakening set to music' (A Younger Theatre), Kalakuta is equal parts brutal, bold, fierce and beautiful.
