The Directors' View with Nathan Crossan-Smith

This workshop will offer an insight into a director’s point of view and the kinds of qualities a director looks for in an actor, equipping students with ways into contemporary texts, with a focus on psycho-physical approaches.

Nathan trained as a director on LAMDA’s postgraduate directing course, where he assisted Phillip Breen and Max Stafford-Clark, directing Roy Williams’ Lift Off for his final showcase. He has toured to Moscow Arts Theatre and ran a devising project at Der Acteer Studio in Den Hague.

He runs both theatre and hip hop/poetry workshops for Contact Theatre, Only Connect, Kids Co. and schools. He also runs directing workshops for Manchester Metropolitan University’s Film Department.

He is this year’s recipient of the Deutsch Bank Award for Dramatic Art for the Tipping Point Project, which will involve workshops with young people who have offended a national tour of a devised play combining physical theatre and emceeing.

Firecracker Masterclasses

Calling young actors aged 14+: this series of three full-day masterclasses, is your chance to explore different aspects of acting and rub shoulders with industry professionals. Firecracker Youth Theatre is presented by Brighton Dome and Associate Artists Hydrocracker £20 per class; £45 for all three booked at the same time (20 places per group).
