Sadly Making Theatre Happen has been cancelled. For more information please visit Brighton People's Theatre website.

This workshop series gets behind the scenes & introduces you to some of the lesser known people, jobs & activities in the world of theatre

We often only think about acting, singing or dancing when we think about theatre. This workshop series gets behind the scenes and introduces you to some of the lesser known people, jobs and activities in the world of theatre. From producing to production management, sound and lighting design to costume, you’ll get a chance to find out about and explore some of the off stage jobs that are essential to make theatre happen.

Costume Design with Rachel Owen

Rachel has a business in London called Soft Tissue Studio that makes costumes, sets and soft props. She will lead a fun and practical workshop where we will design costumes through collage. We will hear about Rachel’s development as a practitioner in London, discuss different approaches to design, and different avenues for working in design for theatre.

She works across performance and film; for dance, theatre, film, commercials and visual merchandising. Rachel is a soft sculptor, meaning she creates unique, technical and innovative pieces using fabric and her skills have led to collaborations with many exciting artists, including the singer Robyn and artist Hannah Perry.
