Mon 16 Jun 2014
Saxophonist and composer John Surman is a key member of a richly talented generation of British jazz artists who emerged during the 1960s, revered and admired internationally for his pioneering approach to jazz and improvised music. Throughout his 40-year career, he has developed the use of electronics in solo and group performance, working with brass ensembles, choirs, string quartets and orchestras as well as in more familiar jazz settings. For this performance in Brighton, John will be performing a solo show. He received two major UK awards in 2013 for his most recent ECM release, Saltash Bells, and a third at the end of the year for his latest choral composition, Lifelines. He celebrates his 70th birthday in 2014.
