Brighton in World War I talk

with Chris Horlock

An illustrated talk with local author and historian Chris Horlock, exploring what occurred in Brighton during the World War I years, with particular emphasis on the military hospitals that were set up, plus events immediately afterwards, through to the early 1930s.

FREE but limited capacity - places allocated on first come, first served basis. 

Between December 1914–February 1916, during World War I, over 4,000 wounded Indian soldiers received treatment at temporary hospitals set up inside the buildings of the Royal Pavilion Estate.

During World War II, Brighton Dome presented popular social dances and organ concerts, providing a welcome distraction from the uncertainty of wartime.
