In Photos: Building update Dec 2018

History & Heritage

In the Studio Theatre, the new balcony is in place, giving a clearer sense of the layout of the space as well as a closer look at the refurbished windows which are now fully glazed. The flooring continues to be put in place, with this also forming the roof of the new cafe

Work continues to strengthen the historic roof of the Corn Exchange, with workers installing steel plates and dowels and working carefully on restoration. The new and larger entrances to the space are structurally complete, with the windows above them now glazed.

The brand-new Gallery space is really starting to come together with floorboards now in place on the first and second floor. The new lift is now being installed which will give full access to each floor of the Gallery and to the Creative Space.

Work has started on the old Ticket Office building on New Road to create the new welcome area. The Grade II listed building was originally a domestic property and at one stage a bakery, and will become dressing rooms and an office space. Repairs to the wall are required and will feature a combination of brickwork and Brighton speciality, bungaroosh.

The new Cafe windows and doors are in place and glazed, which will eventually open out and be street-level. The backstage areas are also really coming along, with new dressing rooms and easier access between the spaces for staff and performers.
