Outside of the dome, showing the doors

Help shape the future of Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival by joining our Board

News

Role Title:Trustee Hours: up to 20 hours per year (a minimum of four meetings per year) Location: Brighton

Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival’s purpose is to create extraordinary experiences where people can come together to enjoy, imagine, create and change.

We believe that together with the people of Brighton and East Sussex, and with artists and partners from around the world, we can create a place of deep artistic collaboration, of creative entrepreneurship and a place where creativity is seen as essential to life.

The organisation is at an exciting moment, with Brighton Festival 2022 back to full scale, Create Music expanding its work with young people across the region and the major restoration and redevelopment of Brighton Dome’s Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre nearing its completion. We are recruiting new Trustees to add to our existing board and help lead this next period of the organisation’s development.

In order to achieve a better balance of backgrounds, experiences and identities we are particularly seeking candidates with legal or financial skills and a keen interest in the arts and cultural ecology of the United Kingdom. We also welcome candidates with experience as artists and cultural entrepreneurs, particularly those interested in developing our thinking around what it means to work on the edge and between established definitions. We welcome those who might be wanting to develop their approach to governance and training and mentorship will be offered as necessary.

The successful candidate(s) will be appointed by the Board and will be both a trustee under the Charities Act 2011 and a director under the Companies Act 2006. The job is voluntary and unpaid, although travel expenses can be reclaimed.

The Board’s principal role is to provide vision, policy and governance. This includes maintaining an overview of the organisation’s strategy and business planning activities, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements (particularly employment and health & safety), budget approval and monitoring of financial outcomes, recruitment (and management via the Chair) of the Chief Executive.
