1. What is Dome Studio Live?

Dome Studio Live is a night that celebrates the eclectic live music scene in Brighton. Brighton is a transient place that lots of musicians come to; I came to Brighton in 2012 from Bradford to establish my band with some friends. Over the years, I met so many people who were doing similar things, coming to Brighton with a dream. Kymara who played at Dome Studio Live earlier in the year came over from the Netherlands to the city to pursue music, forming her amazing band with musicians she met in the city.

There are also lots of musicians who grew up in Brighton in the scene too. Acts that have performed at Dome Studio Live include Holiday Ghosts, Kymara, Rubii, Currls, Room Sevice, Ellie Pepper, Amber Bugoyne, Safenath, Voilet and Akin Soul.

2. How would you describe the vibe of the night to someone who hasn’t been before?

Refreshing. One night can be soulful, with hints of jazz. Another night could be rock. Another night could be rap. It's a celebration of musical styles made locally that isn't restricted by any one genre; the ambition of the event is to find artists that could one day grace the bigger stages at Brighton Dome.

3. What do you love the most about putting on Dome Studio Live?

I really enjoy presenting new music to audiences who are hungry to discover. I've presented a lot of sounds in Brighton over the years and been part of many artists’ journeys.

I've always enjoyed working with Brighton Dome - the first event I did was a takeover of the Studio Theatre, before the refurb, with my band Normanton Street back in 2015. Almost ten years on, curating this has felt like a natural progression. There have been one-off gigs and projects in between that have led to this place - I can't wait to do more in the future!

4. Tell us about some of the new acts coming up, not to be missed.

Our next headliner, Mrisi, was raised in Brighton and his music is influenced by growing up in the area. He’ll be joined by a rapper poet and musician, local MC Dred and Arvije, a jazz artist. The next few months will see a lot of other acts jump on the stage, stay tuned for next year's announcements...

5. And finally, you have a strong connection to the local music circuit – what makes the music scene in Brighton so special?

Brighton and Music go hand in hand. I came to the city years ago because of the music scene and spent years investing time and energy in local music because of my affection for the city.

The culture sector and creative industry drives Brighton, attracting new talent and people with perspectives and energy who add flavour to the city; it has always been a home to music talent in front and behind the scenes. This is exciting to me.
