‘Tis the season of goodwill and Membership Cards to all mankind

Guest blogger, Elizabeth Hughes finds original and altruistic Christmas gift ideas at Brighton Dome.
Excitement and panic are a heady mix which many of us experience at this time of year.
Christmas is approaching! I’m gripped by childish excitement and nostalgia for twinkling lights and cosy firesides. I’m also fighting back panic at the thought of facing crowds of shoppers in my quest for perfect gifts for friends and family.
Today I had a flash of inspiration.
Many people on my Christmas List love the arts as much as I do, so Membership for Brighton Dome and Brighton Festival could be the answer to so many of my problems. And no need for me to trudge around the shops.
I discover that that Brighton Dome and Festival is a charity which relies upon the sales of individual and corporate memberships as ticket sales alone do not cover all running costs.
Brilliant. My loved ones get a gift which lasts all year AND I do my bit for charity and help to support the arts on the south coast.
I have a chat with Membership Officer, Kelly Davies who tells me that a Membership Card opens the door to some special, money-can’t-buy experiences. Members are given the opportunity to attend rehearsals, sneak previews and unique events not open to the public.
“The Christmas Concert is the highlight of the year,” says Kelly, “It’s our chance to say ‘thank you’ our Members and Patrons and everyone gets in the Christmas spirit.”
This year the concert will take place at the historic St Nicholas Church and feature young musicians who have graduated from Brighton Dome’s annual five-day summer school ‘Rockshop’.
The five day course for teenagers is supported by professional musicians and culminates in a one-off performance at the Corn Exchange. Such educational and community activities are exactly the types of events supported by Membership fees and donations.
In return Members benefit from priority booking on Brighton Festival and selected Brighton Dome events plus various offers and discounts year-round.
So, that’s my Christmas shopping sorted and minimal wrapping required too!
It is indeed the season to be merry.
Brighton Dome Membership starts at just £30 per year (Student & Under-25 rate).
