Ed Motta

Wed 18 Dec 2013

Brazilian MPB, rock, soul music, funk and jazz musician. A popular artist with the soul of a jazz musician, he is the nephew of late Brazilian singer Tim Maia, and makes light, funky and seemingly effortless music that connects with fans at a profound level, through artistry, musicianship and an engaging personality.

His work covers many genres utilising influences from jazz to popular Brazilian music, rock to Hollywood film soundtracks, funk, classical, bossa nova and reggae.

Tonight Ed, backed by his stellar Brazilian band, plays from his extensive back catalogue as well as showcasing music from his latest release, AOR, an outrageously accurate tribute to the super-smooth, musicianly ‘Yacht Rock’ of the late 1970s (Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers, etc.).

Ed has played with everyone from Roy Ayers, Chucho Valdés, Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Bo Diddley to Brazilian stars such as Ed Lincoln, Marcos Valle, João Donato and Dom Salvador.
