Fly the Flag

Thu 13 Jun 2019

To mark the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, artist Ai Weiwei has created a flag to celebrate universal human rights.

Arts organisations and human rights charities will be Flying The Flag for human rights from 24–30 June. From the Highlands of Scotland to the coast of Cornwall via cities, towns and villages across the UK, in galleries and theatres, shopping centres and offices, schools and libraries, both physically and online, people will come together to celebrate that human rights are for everyone, every day.

Visitors to Together, Sanctuary on Sea’s flagship Refugee Week event on Sunday 23 June, are invited to show their support by making their own mini-flags and bunting in a workshop led by artist Laura Halliwell, inspired by the deeds of characters from Brighton Dome’s history, including suffragettes and artist activists whose lives have made an impact on human rights.

The bunting created by the Brighton & Hove community, as well as by pupils from Hove Junior School (Holland Road Site) and Queens’ Park Primary School will be proudly displayed alongside Ai Weiwei’s flag in Brighton Dome.
