SPECTRUM: Objects Ltd.

Sun 6 Aug 2017

Enjoy a Brighton Digital Festival special edition of SPECTRUM, curated by Lara Rix-Martin of Objects Limited.

Lara Rix-Martin heads up Objects Ltd, a record label in its second year, that only releases music by those who identify as female or non-binary; a demographic that’s heavily under represented within the electronic music industry. She headlines the night under the moniker of Meemo Comma, and has curated the evening to showcase some of her favourite female artists based in Brighton.

Her sound is stripped back, dreamlike and evocative with elements of footwork, instrumental grime and drone. Currently working on a new album, due in September, Lara is focusing on self hypnosis and meditation, from a world weary of the avalanche of data.

Drill Folly is the project name of Melbourne-born, Brighton-based electronic music producer Sarah Phelan. Described by The Guardian as an 'icily bracing industrial attack,' Drill Folly is all about machinery and emotion – combustion, morphology, dependence, therapy, realised through found sound, synthesis and studio manipulation, with a warmer, existential focus at it's core.

Ingrid Plum uses her voice with extended technique, improvisation, field recordings and electronics, to create layered soundscapes, spoken word and songs. Having performed and exhibited installation sound art and visual art since 2002, she creates work that sits between sound art, improvisation, multi-media installation, neo-classical and contemporary Nordic folk music.

Lara Rix-Martin tells us more about her label Objects Limited over on our blog.
