Mendelssohn Octet

The Doric String Quartet have been artistic directors of the Mendelssohn on Mull festival since 2018 and are delighted to share the stage in Brighton with a few musicians who have graced the festival in recent years.

Held annually, the festival sees the Quartet invite 8 young professional string players on the cusp of careers to work intensely on chamber repertoire and perform across this beautiful island.

At this Coffee Concert, they'll perform Mendelssohn's exhilarating Octet with students from Mendelssohn on Mull Festival, showcasing both the energy and sophisticated sensitivity of the young musicians.

About Doric String Quartet

As the Doric String Quartet enters their 25th anniversary, the players continue to deepen their interpretations and win fans across the world.

The group brings an elegance and intimacy both to the Classical canon and new music. Their intellectual rigour has led them to use specially made original-style bows for performing Classical repertoire from Haydn to Mendelssohn, but they are also committed to new music, performing works by composers such as Peter Maxwell Davies and Donnacha Dennehy.

Their curiosity and flexibility are represented by a discography of more than 20 recordings for Chandos and they have performed at famous venues around the world.
