Framed by Britten’s dramatic Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes and Debussy’s magnificent three-movement La Mer, we’re joined by the dynamic young conductor Adam Hickox in BPO’s tremendous season finale: a homage to the sea.
Debussy’s love of Japanese art – he famously selected Hokusai’s woodblock Great Wave off Kanagawa for the title page of La Mer – is mirrored by music by the great Japanese film composer, record producer and actor Ryuichi Sakamoto, who died last year. We’re also delighted to present Norwegian composer Geirr Tveitt, whose marvellously tuneful Three Fjords concerto for handanger fiddle has just been released by the brilliant young virtuoso Ragnhild Hemsing. Unmissable!
