Grace Barrett left the Midlands to forge a career as a London-based backing singer. Upon entering one of the most judgmental industries on Earth, she was forced to find a little self-esteem. Grace has worked world tours, headlined some of the largest UK venues and festivals and appeared on TV shows such as David Letterman. At present, Grace is a member of The Self-Esteem Team, who have worked with 45,000 young people on body image and mental health. Grace recently co-authored their book Sex, Drugs and WTF's??! - a guide to self-esteem for teens out in August.
Selina Thompson is an artist and performer based in Leeds. Her work is playful, participatory and intimate, focused on the politics of identity, and how this defines our bodies, lives and environments. She has made work for pubs, cafes, hairdressers, toilets, and sometimes even galleries and theatres, including Spill Festival of Performance, The National Theatre Studio, The Birmingham REP, East Street Arts, Fierce Festival and the West Yorkshire Playhouse.
Over the past couple of years she's built dresses out of cake to explore being fat, constructed giant tumbleweaves to dissect the politics of afro hair, and built her own job centre game show, to look at the stigma that surround unemployment. Throughout 2015 she will be exploring Black British Identity in all its beauty and complication.
