Mariana Sadovska
Wed 21 Jan 2015
Known in her home country as the ‘Ukrainian Bjork’, Mariana Sadovska’s furious performances cross all borders: ancient midsummer invocations, wedding songs and migrant chants from remote Ukrainian villages all get a singular turn.
Teaming up with German percussionist and electronica specialist Christian Thomé, Mariana creates an ever-changing collage of Ukrainian folk and contemporary electro-acoustic sounds. Their assortment of instruments - from harmonium and Jew’s harp to laptop - are woven together by Mariana’s powerful voice that oscillates between fragility and defiance.
