SPECTRUM: Record Store Day

We are excited to announce that Brighton Dome’s April SPECTRUM will be celebrating Record Store Day with a daylong Festival of special performances. Working closely with our partners at Resident we will deliver the ultimate day-out for music lovers and record buyers.

The perfect way to celebrate RSD, Brighton Dome’s SPECTRUM and Resident conspire to make a musical enclave out of our corner of the North Laine. From 2pm, with your wristband, you will be able to come-and-go as some of Brighton’s most celebrated artists perform at Brighton Dome’s Studio Theatre.

Panel debate with Q&A exploring DIY culture of recording, distribution and publishing; an informative, engaging discussion offering diverse perspectives from across the music world.

Phil Nelson – Head of Business (BIMM)

Phil has been an artist manager for 25 years. Starting out with The Levellers, he helped them set up the Metway music complex in Brighton and Beautiful Days festival in Devon, as well as achieving one platinum and six gold albums. Other past and present clients include Longpigs, Aqualung, Sweet Billy Pilgrim and Duke Special.

He was one of three people who founded The Great Escape festival, and was Vice Chairman of the Music Managers Forum for eight years. Phil is also a classically trained bassoonist.

Dean Marsh – Creative Law

Creative Law & Business is unique: it was formed in 2006 specifically to provide informed advice and much-needed specialist support to creative talent and businesses with creativity at their core. Dean comes with a wealth of experience and provides specialist advice and mentoring to bands and artists to help establish their own music business via the DIY route.

Paul Jonas – Co-founder Tru Thoughts

Brighton label formed in 1999 and in one decade, becoming one of the most famous and well respected labels in the independent music world. In 2005 Tru Thoughts were awarded Label Of The Year at the annual Gilles Peterson Worldwide Awards and has discovered an impressive roster of notable acts such Quantic, Alice Russell, Bonobo and more…

Sam Organ

Brighton music producer and artist (Physics House Band/ Mount Bank), runs the digital department at Tru Thoughts as well as KLDSCP, a Brighton digital label/imprint run alongside Joe Caple (Caveman Genius). The two use the platform to promote electronic and experimental music with releases online and putting on live events.

Anti-Ghost Moon Ray: Elizabeth Walling (Gazelle Twin) and Jez Bernholz (Bernholz)

Anti-Ghost Moon Ray is the collective imprint and record label home to; Acquaintance, Bernholz, Great Pagans, and Gazelle Twin. It began in 2010 as a blog run by four friends in Brighton, each making music together and independently, and each looking for a way to release material on a tight budget, as well as curate events that brought their mutual interests together. Five years on, and with 17 releases now under their belt, all four artists have achieved international critical acclaim for their work, from publications including; The Quietus, The Guardian, NME, Uncut, XLR8R, The Creators Project, FADER, and many more.
