Theatre Industry Day

Two award winning playwrights: Winsome Pinnock and Rory Mullarkey will open the fifth NWS annual Playwrights Industry Day at the Dome Studio, Brighton on 22 November with provocations on the theme The politics of playwriting, the politics in playwriting,

In addition to lively discussion about the state of contemporary new theatre writing the day offers a unique opportunity for playwrights and theatre makers to meet with key members of the theatre industry. This year guests and speakers are drawn from The Royal Court, Theatre Centre, Paines Plough, Theatre 503, Hydrocracker, Clean Break, PBAB and more. Plus there’s a great line up of producers, directors and lots of writers.

Packed with debates, keynote talks, one to one sessions and meet the industry sessions there’s also plenty of time to meet new contacts over a hot lunch.

Some one-to-one professional development sessions are also available on a first come, first served basis.

Winsome Pinnock is the doyenne of black British playwrights. Her award-winning plays include The Wind of Change (Half Moon Theatre, 1987), Leave Taking (Liverpool Playhouse and National Theatre, 1988) and Talking In Tongues (Royal Court Theatre, 1991). Winsome has also written for radio and television, and is currently Head of Department of Creative Writing at Kingston University.

Rory Mullarkey is a young playwright on the ascendancy. His 2014 Pinter Commission The Wolf From The Door is just about to finish its run at the Royal Court, and was co-winner of the coveted George Devine award. This year Rory also won the £10,000 James Tait Black prize for outstanding new drama for his first full-length play, Cannibals.
