Fimber Bravo

Tue 8 Jul 2014

Hailing from Trinidad, Bravo’s playing has taken the steel pan into a different league, a planet away from the old stereotypes of tropical novelty into a stratosphere of pulsing sound and sizzling rhythm.

One of the most influential exponents of the steel pan in contemporary music, Fimber Bravo is a founder member of the 20th Century Steel Band whose record Heaven & Hell became a hip-hop touchstone; name-checked and sampled by Grandmaster Flash, Doug E Fresh, Soul II Soul, J-Lo and many more amongst the hip hop fraternity.

He has worked with an astonishing array of artists, from Winifred Atwell right through to Sun Ra Arkestra, Blur, Morcheeba, Hot Chip, Zongamin and Mickey Moonlight.

His amazing live line-up includes: Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip), Susumu Mukai (Zongamin) and drummer, Leo Taylor (The Invisable, Grace Jones, Adele, Jessie Ware…) and the Senegalese Griot Kadialy Kouyate on Kora.
