Over the last five years, Brighton-based choreographer and stage designer, Theo Clinkard has built an international reputation for creating affecting and visually arresting work that explores the communicative potential of the body and the empathetic nature of dance in performance.
He launched his own company in 2012 and subsequently created numerous works which have toured across the UK and internationally, receiving critical and audience acclaim. Company works include Hell Bent (2012), Ordinary Courage (2012), Of Land & Tongue (2014) and Chalk (2014).
Outside of his company work, Clinkard has recently undertaken a range of high profile international commissions. In 2015 he created Somewhat still when seen from above for Tanztheatre Wuppertal Pina Bausch as part of their historic first evening of new work. In 2016, he premiered The Listening Room for twenty dancers at Danza Contemporanea de Cuba which toured across the UK in 2017, including performances at Brighton Dome’s Concert Hall.
Clinkard launches his new relationship with Brighton Dome with the World Premiere of his first Brighton Festival commission, This Bright Field. Clinkard’s most ambitious project to date will be presented at the Dome's Concert Hall and features his company of twelve exceptional international dancers and live music from Brighton’s own composer and musician, James Keane.
