Vincent Dance Theatre

Associate Company

Vincent Dance Theatre (VDT) has been ‘moving people and making them think’ since 1994.

Vincent Dance Theatre (VDT) was set up in 1994 in Sheffield by Director/Choreographer Charlotte Vincent. Since then VDT has produced over 21 dance theatre works, short films, videos, interactive installations and art publications, gaining a national and international reputation for creating strongly affecting productions with a crackling intellectual core.

A champion of gender equality, Vincent is considered one of the UK’s leading female choreographers and her distinctive voice extends beyond dance into the wider cultural, political and social landscape as a curator, mentor, writer, provocateur, facilitator and catalyst for critical debate.

‘Funny, fearless and flintily determined, Vincent inspires unshakable loyalty in her dancers, and is one of the most important feminist artists working in Britain today. Contemporary dance fans should beat a path to her door.’ Luke Jennings 21 Years/21 Works March 2015

VDT works across disciplines combining choreography, movement, text and live music, challenging conventional values in dance and gender politics. The company has toured across the UK and internationally to Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, Italy, Jersey, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and the USA.

VDT was last seen at Brighton Dome with Motherland (2012), Underworld (2015) and Look At Me Now Mummy (2015). VDT’s new work Virgin Territory will be seen in November 2016.

‘@VDTMotherland says anything you could ever want to say about being a woman, as well as a man, about being human. my heart has exploded.’ Audience Member
