Future/History

Mon 20 May 2013

Future/History will bring together BandBazi’s inclusive, multicultural youth group with refugee artists from across the Southeast of England in a multi-artform performance event. BandBazi Youth Circus Theatre will present their own interpretation of the Asylum Monologues, followed by Platforma’s showcase celebrating artists and performers of refugee origin. This evening of exciting and compelling theatre, music and art is not to be missed.

Originally devised and presented by ice&fire theatre, the Asylum Monologues is a first-hand account of the UK’s asylum system in the words of people who have experienced it. Directed and performed by young refugees and asylum seekers, BandBazi YCT’s Asylum Monologues will see the original testimonies infused with the group’s own unique brand of circus and physical theatre.

Platforma will present an exciting showcase for established and up and coming artists and performers of refugee origin from across the South East. Featuring the inspirational Lucky Moyo (Uzambesi, and founder member of the pioneering Black Umfolosi) as compere, with support from refugee performers. Platforma is the national arts and refugee network, which programmes refugee artists and into mainstream venues across the UK.

Join us from 6.15pm in the Studio Bar for some delicious Sudanese food, provided by caterers from the BMECP. Donations welcome.
