Dvořák Symphony No. 9
Jamie Phillips conductor
Alexander Sitkovetsky violin
It’s all about the emotion. Beethoven takes a drama of ancient Rome and turns it into a tense musical thriller. Brahms relaxes in the sunshine of the Alps, and lets his happiness pour out in one of the sweetest and most songful of all violin concertos, played tonight by Alexander Sitkovetsky. As for Dvořák, well, he might have written his Ninth Symphony in the 'New World', but his heart was in Bohemia. If you only know the famous Largo, you’re in for a wonderful surprise, as he pours all his nostalgia and inspiration into a symphony that never gets any less stirring.
