Schubert Quartettsatz in C minor D703
Haydn Quartet in G major Op.76 no.1
Shostakovich Piano Quintet in G minor Op.57
The award-winning Gildas String Quartet make their debut at Brighton Dome with sumptuous music by Schubert and Haydn. They are joined by the outstanding pianist Joanna MacGregor, in one of Shostakovich’s most enduring works: the dazzling, satirical, and ultimately moving Piano Quintet.
The Gildas Quartet have performed to critical acclaim at Bridgewater Hall, Southbank Centre, Wigmore Hall, and on BBC Radio 3. The bold and explorative approach to performance has been recognised by many prizes, including the International Franz Schubert and Modern Music Competition in Graz as well as Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition. Joanna MacGregor CBE is one of the world's most innovative musicians. As a solo pianist she has appeared in over eighty countries, and broadcasts regularly on BBC Radio 3; she is known as a festival director, and for her influential role as Head of Piano at the Royal Academy of Music. Joanna has just been appointed Principal Conductor and Music Director of Brighton Philharmonic, as it approaches its centenary.
