Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra’s adventurous season starts with a bang: a glamorous concert of American classics, bursting with virtuosity and vitality. The American conductor Clark Rundell opens with John Adams’ famous rollercoaster, Short Ride in a Fast Machine, then is joined by BPO’s Music Director Joanna MacGregor for Gershwin’s Hollywood-inspired piano concerto.

Charles Ives’ contemplative The Unanswered Question – featured in Terence Malik’s The Thin Red Line and Terence Davies’ biopic of Emily Dickinson - offers a moment of stillness, before Leonard Bernstein’s sensational Symphonic Dances from his great work, West Side Story
