This musical tour of Britain starts with Mendelssohn, at Fingal’s Cave, before travelling to Shropshire for Butterworth’s Housman inspired rhapsody. The pastoral idyll of The Lark Ascending contrasts with the rugged Scottish landscape of McCunn’s splendid overture, then we visit Cornwall with Sullivan and Arnold, and enjoy the folk-songs evoked in the Norfolk Rhapsody before exploring the capital courtesy of Coates’s London Suite.
