The Works is a regular night at Brighton Dome that provides a chance for theatre makers, dancers, choreographers and musicians to present their cross-artform and interdisciplinary work in development.
This special earsthetic edition is particularly focussed on presenting work by musicians and visually led artists. Hosted and facilitated by dramaturg Lou Cope and musician/experimental artist Sarah Nicolls, a handful of artists will be selected to present short 10-15 minute excerpts of site-specific work in development; offering opportunity for them to seek the opinions of the audience they wish to attract, and an opportunity for people who care about performance to engage in collective dramaturgy and development.
The following artists and companies will be testing their work:
In Embryo by Xavier de Sousa & Needless Alley
Working with poetry, movement, music, dance and visual artist, Needless Alley together question and reflect on templates for narrative making, improvisation and collective and social consciousness. In Embryo is a reflection on potential sustainable models of a living collective society.
I Hear U See Me by Silvia Mercuriali with Tommaso Perego and Simon Wilkinson
An interdisciplinary piece that combines video, instruction based Autoteatro and three dimension sound diffusion, focussing on how movement of sound in space informs the narrative and creates an emotional response in participants.
Industrialising Intimacy by Elaine Mitchener with Dam van Huynhm George Lewis and David Toop
A musical examination and exploration of the modern idea of intimacy in an age where access to technology does not necessarily equate to better communication between people.
