REPRESENT (2021–2023)

A project for young men to collaborate with top artists; make, create, learn, record, reflect and become part of Brighton’s creative community. Led by Rebecca Fidler alongside Bobby Brown, REPRESENT brought a team of artist-mentors and young men referred through Probation together. Meeting weekly, the project focussed on creativity as a means to open up conversation, develop talent and build a creative community. The project was co-designed with the participants as they discovered what they needed to move forwards positively in their lives including studio time, ongoing education, mentoring or tuition. Skills explored included:

Music Production
Making beats
Lyric writing
Rap / Singing / Spoken Word
Filmmaking
Storytelling

In 2019, Sussex was one of 18 areas allocated funding by the Home Office to establish Violence Reduction Units / Partnerships, which adopt a public health approach to tackling and reducing crime.

Funding for this project came from the Sussex Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP) which aims to protect young people and make our communities safer. It does this by bringing together the police, local authorities, criminal justice, the NHS, public health and community organisations to tackle the root causes of serious violence in Sussex.

REPRESENT was the brother project to Miss Represented, a long-running project aimed at young women.
