Our Place Artist In Residence, Brighton Festival 2025
Brighton Festival is looking for three Artists (or artist collectives) in Residence to create a community arts project in East Brighton, Hangleton & Knoll or Moulsecoomb & Bevendean as part of Our Place 2025.
The Our Place Artist(s) in Residence for East Brighton, Hangleton & Knoll or Moulsecoomb & Bevendean should be keen to co-create with the community and the steering committee on a project that will make an impact in the local area and/or target a specific underrepresented group. Previous Artist in Residence projects have included visual art trails; screen printed postcard and banner project celebrating the diversity of the local community, community made and decorated willow arches; craft and a performance project exploring murmuration.
All three Our Place areas would like to see a project that aligns with the broader festival themes, however each location has some specific considerations:
In East Brighton, the community would like to explore the art form of Puppetry, in particular shadow puppetry, and are seeking applications from puppeteers/puppet makers who have experience in the art form.
In Hangleton & Knoll, the community would like to specifically work on the themes of faith and culture, celebrating difference as well as highlighting similarities. They are seeking applications from textile artists/crafters to work with residents to create flags and bunting.
In Moulsecoomb & Bevendean, the community are open to applications from artists/makers who work in any art form. They are looking for a project that platforms the voice of people from the global majority by inviting residents from previously underrepresented groups to participate in an arts project.
For more information on all areas, please see the full artist briefs.
Application deadline: 8.30am, Wed 13 Nov 2024
