Chick this out, we have a range of very egg-citing things to see and do this Easter. Dylan Moran will be stopping by on his upcoming tour Off the Hook, on Wed 1 and Thu 2 Apr. The legendary Orquestra Buena Vista Social Club will be visiting on Sat 4 Apr as well as Herbie Flowers with his ever popular Jazz Breakfast on Sun 5 Apr. Chris Thorpe’s acclaimed Confirmation will be here on Sat 4 Apr, as well as a staged production of the mighty St John Passion on Fri 3 Apr.
The hilarious, energetic Irish comic Dylan Moran returns to the stand up stage. The gifted writer and star of Channel 4 sitcom Black Books will perform in the Concert Hall as part of his Off the Hook tour after a four year break. An amusing mix of satire and dry humour, Moran’s mischievous performance is not to be missed!
With Easter just around the corner, we have the remarkable Brighton Festival Chorus returning with their in-the-round rendition of Bach’s powerful St John Passion conducted by James Morgan. This involving performance is sure to bring the Concert Hall to life with an intimate yet dramatic show. Ticket Holders will also be able to attend a free workshop at St George’s Church in Kemptown to learn more about the St John Passion on Sat 21 Mar. Watch the BFC rehearse this stirring and mighty piece.
Developed by Rachel Chavkin the director of Catch 22, (Brighton Festival 2014) and written and performed by Chris Thorpe, Confirmation explores three key interweaving narratives in this fast-moving, politically charged, thought-provoking production. An honest and raw performance by Thorpe provides the grounds for thoughts surrounding confirmation bias and political extremism. The piece sets itself around the in built tendency we all have to look at the world and to see the things that confirm the point of view that we already have.
Since 1997, The Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club has been gracing audiences with their fun spirit and original Cuban flare. They will perform in the Concert Hall as part of their Adios farewell tour. Under the guidance of band leader Jesus Aguaje Ramos, the Grammy Award-winning artists have adapted and included over 40 musicians over their countless global tours. The multi-generational group will be joined by past players and attract a diverse audience, so anyone and everyone can celebrate with a Cuban themed boogie!
Herbie Flowers has been a musical marvel since he began learning how to play various instruments in the 1940s. The legendary performer specialises in bass guitar, double-bass and tuba, and has worked with the likes of David Bowie, Lou Reed and Sir Paul McCartney. As part of his regular and very popular morning jazz breakfasts, Herbie will be performing in the Corn Exchange, so grab a coffee and revel in Herbie’s jazzy gathering.
