“This innovative exhibition provides the perfect opportunity to welcome audiences old and new to these unique historic spaces”

We are delighted to announce the ground-breaking immersive exhibition Van Gogh Alive will welcome back audiences to our fully restored Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre from spring this year. Running from 12 May to 6 August, this unique experience combines sound, visuals and even aromas of Provence to bring Vincent Van Gogh’s work to life.

More than 3,000 images will create a spectacular kaleidoscope of colour set to an evocative classical music soundtrack. Alongside the iconic ‘Sunflower selfie room’ that has delighted Instagram feeds across the world, Brighton visitors will be the first to see a brand new ‘Starry Night’ installation. There is also a life-sized walk-in version of Van Gogh’s bedroom (famously depicted in his Bedroom of Arles painting) and a dedicated artist studio where you can replicate Van Gogh’s artistic style.

Described by The Sunday Times as ‘glorious, stunning…(and) very moving’, Van Gogh Alive has toured more than 80 cities around the world, with over 8.5 million visitors. We are thrilled to partner with Grande Experiences, the team behind the event, to share new spaces with you, ahead of a packed schedule of live performances returning in the autumn. Our dedicated creative space for artists and communities Anita’s Room, supported by The Roddick Foundation, will also be available from the spring.

This event marks the completion of a major project to restore and protect the Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre as part of a long-term vision between Brighton & Hove City Council, Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival and Brighton & Hove Museums to make Brighton Dome and the wider Royal Pavilion Estate a landmark centre for heritage and the arts that reflects the unique spirit of Brighton.

“We are thrilled that Van Gogh Alive will be the inaugural event at Brighton Dome’s newly refurbished Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre. After extraordinary partnerships working with Brighton & Hove City Council, our other funders and donors and the painstaking restoration work to our venues, this innovative and immersive exhibition provides the perfect opportunity to welcome audiences old and new to these unique historic spaces.”
