Meet your host AFLO. the poet
Award-winning Brighton-based spoken word artist, AFLO. the poet, presents an uplifting night of spoken word featuring fresh local talent and special guests from across the UK.
AFLO. the poet is an activist and academic who embraces creative expression to disrupt the status quo and inspire social change, using poetry as a vehicle to address hard-hitting topics, particularly racism and mental health, primarily speaking from her lived experiences. Previously an in-house artist for Brighton Dome, she is a significant force directing change in Brighton's creative scenes and continues to sow seeds across the country
About Keith Jarrett
Keith Jarrett’s work explores Caribbean British identity, religion and sexuality. A multiple poetry slam champion, he was selected for the International Literary Showcase as an outstanding LGBT writer. His poem, ‘From the Logbook’, was projected onto St. Paul’s Cathedral. His play, Safest Spot in Town, was performed at the Old Vic and aired on BBC Four.
Keith has judged the Commonwealth Short Story Prize, the Stephen Spender Translation Award and others. He appeared on the BAFTA-winning show Life & Rhymes with Benjamin Zephaniah. Keith holds a PhD from Birkbeck and teaches at New York University in London. Hide Me Under the Blood and I Shall Be Satisfied, a PBS spring recommendation, was published in March 2026; his novel is forthcoming.ght out in 2024 with Bad Betty. His Desert Island Films are Carlito’s Way and Mean Girls. He’s currently in Margate.
