International Women's Day Celebration

Brighton Dome, Brighton Women’s Centre and Brighton Museum come together to celebrate International Women’s Day with a packed creative programme for everyone.

Join us for a day of performances, workshops, talks, arts and crafts. Learn about a variety of feminist causes and campaigns at the heart of this day from inspiring speakers, activists and innovators.

Come and get involved with all day drop-in crafting, seated Shiatsu for women, all day drop-in children’s activities & pop-up Science Activities: Take part in climate-themed experiments and games with Extinction Rebellion! Family fun with an environmental message.

Plus this schedule of talks and workshops throughout the day:

10.30 – 11.30 Women of Colour: Our stories, our identities. A workshop with Meeta Johnson.

10.30 – 11.30 Sing Your Heart Out . A popular and lively workshop with Aneesa Chaudhry, celebrated MD of Rainbow Chorus. 

10.30 – 11.30 Charleston Dance Class - Learn to dance like the 1920s flappers with Brighton Lindyhoppers. Suitable for all levels.

10.30 & 12.30 Yoga Class. With Laurie Cooper from Brighton Yoga Foundation. 

11.00 – 12.00 Women and Poverty. Panel discussion chaired by BWC Director Lisa Dando. 

11.00 – 12.00 Mary Clarke – hidden suffragette. Discover one of Brighton’s unsung heroes and the campaign to get her commemorated.

11.00 – 3.30 Nail Transphobia. Charlie Craggs pop-up nail salon - challenging attitudes towards transgender people, one manicure at a time.

12.00 – 1.00 Staged Fighting Masterclass. Learn how to create the illusion of stage combat and tell a story through clever choreography.

12.00 – 1.00 Free the Nipple: Body Positivity. Learn from the Free The Nipple movement while exploring body equality and positivity. 

12.00 – 12.45 Discover the Women of Brighton Walking Tour. Explore the important women of Brighton’s history with a walking tour of the Royal Pavilion Estate.

12.30 – 1.15 Behind the Scenes with Photographer Anita Corbin. Discover some of the stories and inspiration behind the 100 First Women Portraits project. 

12.45 – 1.45 Sustainable Fashion Inspiring talk on sustainable fashion and women in business by the founder of Ruby Moon Activewear.

1.30 – 2.30 Soul Circus: Power of Trees. The popular group return to IWD with an interactive workshop about nature’s power, wise women and song.2

2.00 – 3.00 Moon Tales. 12 female characters inspired by the names of the full moons. Award-winning solo performance from Kate Darach. 

2.00 – 3.00 Comedy writing for women. An introduction to comedy writing for the beginner with Annabel Pribelszki

2.30 – 4.00 Women and the Climate Emergency. Panel discussion chaired by MP Caroline Lucas with Dorothy Grace Guererro (Global Justice Now) Kayla Ente (BHESCo) Fran Witt (Fossil Free Sussex) and Lotte Marley (Youth4ClimateStrike)

2.30 – 3.30 Eco-anxiety. How to manage and overcome it with psychologist Emmy Brunner. 

3.00 – 4.00 Women’s Morris dancing. A beginners workshop with Cuckoo's Nest Women Morris Dancers.

3.30 – 4.30 Let Mum Speak. A talk about Mothers Uncovered, a project to tackle feelings of isolation and loneliness among new mothers.

3.30 – 4.30 Green Magic Show. Magic show with an environmental message from Megan Swann.
