Yerma
Thu 24 Jul 2014
This Kathak interpretation of the story of Yerma - driven by the social and emotional torment of a childless marriage to commit a devastating act – filters Federico Garcia Lorca’s savage yet lyrical play through the beauty of Indian classical dance accompanied by live musicians.
By transplanting the action from patriarchal and repressive rural Spain to a contemporary British inner-city community, Amina Khayyam pushes the boundaries of Kathak dance.
