‘If I understood war the way I understand music, I would conquer him!’ said Ludwig van Beethoven about Napoleon Bonaparte. In his revolutionary ‘Eroica’ Symphony and the mighty ‘Emperor’ Concerto, the 19th century’s most radical composer locked horns with the man who re-shaped Europe – while the Coriolan Overture probes the psychological cost of political power. This is the music of an angry young genius, forged at white heat in an age of revolution, and with the combined youthful energy of conductor Eugene Tzigane and the award-winning pianist Inon Barnatan, it should be an electrifying evening.
