When Johann Sebastian Bach and Antonio Vivaldi created their concertos, they weren’t just providing showcases for brilliant players, and they weren’t just creating delightfully vivid musical pictures – though no music does that with more imagination and charm than Vivaldi’s evergreen The Four Seasons. They were looking for a universal harmony: and expressing it in music that, three centuries on, has an unmatched ability to refresh the human heart and soul.
