Joanna MacGregor pianoA beautiful programme bringing together the English romantics Rebecca Clarke and Edward Elgar, with Parisian glamour in between. Elgar’s beautiful Quintet was conceived in 1918 in the rural seclusion of Fittleworth in West Sussex, after a period of illness. His wife heard ‘wood magic’ in this music, and it pairs sensitively with Rebecca Clarke’s two pieces for string quartet – music of inspiration and poetic sensibility. In between, youthful Fauré, music of ardour and love.
