Artist's Brief for Community Art Project within Our Place 2023

News, Brighton Festival

Brighton Festival is looking for an Artist (or artist collective) in Residence to create a community arts project in Moulsecoomb & Bevendean, Brighton, as part of Our Place 2023.

Our Place is Brighton Festival’s flagship community initiative produced in partnership with the communities of East Brighton, Hangleton & Knoll and Moulsecoomb & Bevendean.

Our Place works with a steering group of local residents to programme art made by, with and for people living in the area. Our Place aims to create an open, inviting programme of bold, exceptional work in the community.

The Guest Director of the 2023 Brighton Festival will be Nabihah Iqbal, and we would like the Our Place Artist in Residence project to connect with Nabihah’s vision for the Brighton Festival.

The Our Place Artist in Residence for Moulsecoomb & Bevendean should be keen to co-create with the community on a project that will make an impact in the local area. Whilst many previous projects have had a visual art outcome, the community is open to proposals of all art forms, including combined art forms.

We would love for the project to be visible/accessible to all, either prominently, or to be a surprise for residents to stumble across in their everyday lives. The Artist can work in any medium but must involve the community in actively creating some of the work through workshops.

Closing date for submissions 8.30am on 25th November 2022
