New Brighton Dome Ticket Office in the running for Sussex Heritage Award
We are delighted to announce that Brighton Dome’s refurbished ticket office is in the running for a Sussex Heritage Award in the Public and Community category.
The project – which was undertaken by ZST architects and Square One Design Workshop – is a bespoke interior fit out of Brighton Dome's Grade 1 listed ticket office, which was completed in January this year.
The new look ticket office has replaced the Brighton Dome Ticket Shop previously located on New Road, as part of a major restoration of the Studio Theatre and Corn Exchange. These works – which will restore long-lost heritage features as well as provide new, state-of the art facilities - are the beginning of a larger and longer term vision to restore and reunite the Royal Pavilion Estate.
The existing room proposed for the new ticket office was a blank canvas possessing only a few remnants of architectural character which comprise the heritage of this Grade 1 Listed building.
Sophie Law-Smith of ZST architects says “In 2016 Square One Design Workshop & ZST architects were privileged to have been awarded the tender for the collaborative refurbishment of the Grade 1 Listed Brighton Dome Ticket Office. On entering the ticket office, the installation co-designed by Square One Workshop and ZSTa, comprises of two elements. A refined monolithic block with framed screen back drop. To the side sits a shadow wall with a clearly defined aperture. Conceptually the shadow wall, cut with motifs borrowed from existing ornamentation in the rest of the Dome’s interior, creates a sub space within the room. To be shortlisted for the Sussex Heritage Trust award is a an honour and we are looking forward to the awards ceremony on Thursday.”
The Sussex Heritage Award winners will be announced at 4pm on Thursday 6 July.
