Fresh from sellout performances across the globe, this visionary dance work from celebrated choreographer Michael Keegan-Dolan brings the subtle, the unexpected and the universal to Brighton Dome Tue 10–Wed 11 Feb as part of its first UK tour.

Find out more about this ‘spellbinding gathering of music and memories’ (The Guardian).

Part-ceilidh, part-gig and part-dance show, MÁM is inspired by Michaels’ deep connection to West Kerry, Ireland.

Michael says: “I perceive the world through [Irish] history, our native language, the landscape and our musical tradition — and MÁM is very linked to that. When I made the piece in 2019 it was an expression of my relationship to many of these things—from land to history to folklore to mythology to music to religion, to spirituality.”

Sweeping from joy to sorrow, this ‘glorious’ (The Arts Review) show is performed by twelve contemporary dancers from Michael’s Teac Damsa company, who form a fearless and energetic collective to create a whirlwind of myth and magic on the stage.

‘Mám’ contains a multitude of meanings in Irish — learn more from Michael here:

MÁM is fuelled by collaborative music-making. Performed live by traditional concertina player Cormac Begley and Berlin-based instrumental collective s t a r g a z e, the sound score blends traditional Irish jigs with European classical contemporary.

Be immersed in the windswept shores of West Kerry: don’t miss this ‘[80] minutes of ritualised ecstasy’ (The Irish Times).
