A celebration of new jazz and independent labels

There is an explosion of new, expressive music in the UK happening right now that is gathered loosely under the umbrella of Jazz, Nu-Jazz or Alt-Jazz. This is being nourished by a community of visionary independent record labels who are placing collaboration at the heart of their practice and are at the vanguard of this vital British musical movement. This night brings together some of the most exciting musicians and acts from these collaborating  labels who are fully committed to the development and growth of this radical new music.

Part of Brighton Dome Record Label Nights, presenting a series of live music shows curated by some of the UKs most exciting independent record labels.

Drawing on the talent and expertise of London-based musicians from Burkina Faso to the Gambia, Balimaya Project sought to engage intentionally with the musical and cultural nuances so often overlooked in the discourse around music from the African continent.

corto.alto (New Soil x Bridge The Gap)

Fast-emerging Scottish composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist corto.alto has been described as a traditional jazz head raised in the age of the internet. The moniker of Glasgow-based Liam Shortall, corto.alto brings a fresh perspective to a heady mix of intuitive improvisation, electronic production, broken beat bounce and bass-heavy dub.
