Gondwana Records
An independent record label, founded in Manchester in 2008 by trumpeter, composer and producer Matthew Halsall and his brother, graphic designer and artist, Daniel Halsall. Inspired by a love of deep spiritual jazz and UK club culture, Gondwana initially focused on releases from Matthew Halsall and saxophonist Nat Birchall featuring the cream of Manchester jazz talent. In 2012 Gondwana released the debut albums from acoustic-electronica trio GoGo Penguin and folk-jazz minimalists Mammal Hands, and in 2018 ushered in the return of Portico Quartet to the studio, helping define a strand of progressive electronica and jazz-influenced new music that is one of the label’s defining sounds alongside jazz, neo-classical and ambient music. Subsequently Gondwana has become the home of trailblazing and progressive new artists such as Hania Rani, Svaneborg Kardyb, Vega Trails and Jasmine Myra. Gondwana Records Presents concerts are produced in collaboration with some of the most iconic venues in Europe from Elbphilarmonie in Hamburg to AB in Brussels, Union Chapel in London and beyond.
