Capturing the Royal Pavilion
Early Views of George IV's Pleasure Palace in Brighton
Thu 7 Nov 2024
with Dr. Alexandra Loske
Dr Alexandra Loske has been working on a new book about the Royal Pavilion during royal ownership for Yale University Press. As part of this, she has been revisiting and digitising some of the most beautiful and important early drawings in the collection of Brighton & Hove Museums.
Join her for an illustrated talk about original artwork and designs by the architects Henry Holland and William Porden, artist Augustus Charles Pugin, designers John and Frederick Crace, their elusive colleague Robert Jones, and some unknown amateur artists. These early images still inform any curatorial and conservation work carried out today.
