Brighton Dome project SPECTRUM cultivates and supports the vibrant music scene of our city in partnership with Resident.
Brighton is brimming with musical talent which we love to showcase, offering bands the perfect platform to be seen and heard and audiences the chance to discover something new or see their favourites local acts in our iconic venues.
The redevelopment of our Studio Theatre gives us the opportunity to explore the neighbouring Royal Pavilion estate and do something a bit more unusual.
This February we are bringing you an incredibly special SPECTRUM in association with Brighton Museum. Take a tour through this rich and fascinating venue, discovering performances from some of Brighton’s best artists.
The evening will be split into two tours; explore with us and listen to fresh and experimental sounds in a way that you haven’t experienced before featuring acts that traverse genres from pop to punk, from folk to electronica and experimentation — a unique sound for each unique space.
Johanna Bramli
Johanna blends found sounds, drones, DIY noise devices and harmonised vocals to create melodic and dreamy yet haunting soundscapes. She is one half of motorik pop band Fröst and is interested in exploring the gap between experimental noise and pop. In her solo work, she attempts to bring elements of melodic and pop structures to experimental sounds and textures. Find Johanna experimenting in the Museum Lab.
Bloom
Bloom make alternative, life affirming wizard pop using experiments with natural and augmented vocal harmonies, syncopation and synthesisers. Their music is influenced by tiny wriggling things, giant galactic things, the intensity of life, nature and magic - a kaleidoscopic take on existence. See them simultaneously merge and explode into their surroundings.
Bunty
Multi-dimensional beat merchant and vocal juggler: Bunty uses her renegade multi- instrumentalism, voice, effects pedals and a mash of real and made-up languages. She whispers, bellows, beatboxes, claps, stamps and produces frenzied harmonies to create her music from scratch. Find Bunty in amongst weird and wonderful collections.
Sealings
Jess Bishop, an alternative folk / blues musician from Cornwall, began playing acoustic shows in the southwest aged 21. After touring extensively around the U.K, Jess supported Max Rafferty of The Kooks on his European tour, resulting in him, along with Nick Brine (Bruce Springsteen, Seasick Steve, Stone Roses), producing her debut album at the legendary Rockfield Studios.
Delicate and timeless, Jess cites Joni Mitchell, Fairport Convention and Fleetwood Mac as influences on the album. The BBC Introducing team has twice chosen the song Keep on Running as their track of the day, well in advance of the album’s release. The first single Naked Afternoon is out now.
