Pink Fringe returns to our Studio Theatre to celebrate Pride 2013, for a dalliance with the darker sides of the icons we revere. From Monroe to Minaj, our culture is obsessed with peeling back the layers, looking under the covers and undressing our idols. Using a mash up of theatre, cabaret and music, a stellar line up of Queer artists interrogates Celebrity; the altar at which we kneel, and the fairground mirror that reveals the beauties and beasts within us all.Listen to the Pink Fringe podcast

Hoyle has also appeared in Chris Morris and Charlie Brooker’s Nathan Barley and in recent years, he has returned to the stage with a string of live shows; Magazine (2007), Dave’s Drop-In (2009), Licking Wounds (2010) and Lives (2011). Remembering tapes of Judy Garland pouring her heart out into a tape machine, ostensibly making notes for a memoir that was never written, drag fabulist Dickie Beau shapeshifts through a shadowy soundscape of lost souls in this theatrical trip to a subconscious underworld. Blackouts brings to life extraordinary audio artefacts in this study of icons in exile.

Gary Clarke Dance Company - Cameo Cookie

Award winning British choreographer Gary Clarke brings to Brighton a new one woman show. Cameo Cookie is the story of Anita Bryant, the honey-voiced American singer and hard-boiled beauty queen who campaigned in the 1970’s to crush the gay rights movement and in her words, ‘to do away with the homosexuals’. A scintillating mix of movement and gesture, music, spoken word, props, gimmicks and a splash of irony, Cameo Cookie is a series of strikingly visual vignettes of a woman who led a homophobic crusade and yet ended up as the name of a popular cocktail in gay bars all over America.

DIY pop star Boogaloo Stu has been performing for three decades, releasing 9 singles, 2 EP's and 4 albums. Stu opens up to reveal the modest but glittering successes and barrel-scraping lows of his pop trajectory; and how, in his teenage years, pop music shaped his future career and forged his own desire to perform.

Stacy Makishi is a transplant from Hawaii who found paradise in Dalston, London in 1994. When working as a stand-up, her punchlines punched back, and Stacy found herself happiest when making what New Yorkers called performance. It is as complex as it is accessible; humorous as it challenging; visual as it is literate.
