Poland’s Apollon Musagète Quartet rose to prominence following wins at international competitions in Vienna and Florence and first prize at the 2008 ARD International Music Competition. In 2012 they were selected as BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists. The Quartet opens our Sunday morning series with a delightfully contrasting selection of works: from Mendelssohn’s liltingly melodic early quartet to the passionate outpouring of Shostakovich’s mature style.
